Gillian Brent was born in 1959 in Bedfordshire. She studied BA Sculpture at Wimbledon School of Art and postgraduate Sculpture at St Martin’s School of Art, London.

Gillian moved to Sheffield in 1984 where she still lives and works as a sculptor. She is based at Yorkshire Artspace’s Persistence Works.

Gillian has exhibited extensively in galleries and outdoor venues throughout Britain, including Tate Gallery, London. She undertakes public and socially engaged commissions and has works in the public realm in Batley, Bolton, Bristol, Buckinghamshire, Doncaster, High Peak, Leicestershire, London, Nottingham, Rotherham, Scunthorpe and Sheffield.

Gillian is a Member of the Royal Society of Sculptors.

Gillian also works as a practising artist in a learning and research context with galleries such as Nottingham Contemporary, The Hepworth Wakefield and Yorkshire Sculpture Park, and with universities, schools, youth groups, arts and training organisations.
