Artist, The Hepworth Wakefield

Sculpture inspired by the Haroon Mirza exhibition, made during a Young Offenders Summer Arts College.

Gillian has been a creative practitioner for the Learning Team at The Hepworth Wakefield since 2010, developing and facilitating workshops, resources and longer term projects that engage people with the collections and exhibitions in The Hepworth galleries.

She works with primary and secondary schools, families and adults including people living with Dementia and has developed projects and resources with young people including NEETs and Young Offenders, people with visual impairment and other additional needs.

Highlights have been two curating projects with young people. Gillian facilitated the young people selecting works from The Hepworth’s collection to be hung in the main galleries and producing interpretation. The first group in 2014 were young women at risk of homelessness as part of the Imagine project in partnership with University of Sheffield. The second group in 2016 were Art Social, the gallery’s long-running project with NEET young people,
