These sculptures are about horizontality in contrast to the verticality of many of Gillian’s recent works. They use weight to create balance; many of the elements aren’t permanently fixed so they only balance when everything is carefully positioned. The objects encased in concrete are charity shop finds, that trigger memories of people, situations and time periods. The sculptures include hi-fi-speakers which act as plinths but due to their history are not just interchangeable neutral display boxes.
